I was surprised at how heavy this small knife actually feels. I had considered that it would be a candidate for my EDC rotation. However, the MD5 actually ‘feels heavy’. My Kershaw Leak EDC weighs in at 3.16 oz. My MTU8 weights in at 3.51 oz. The MD5 weighs in at 4.13 oz for comparison. I actually had to recheck the website to be sure the handle material was not steel. Blade material is disappointing as 440 (not 440C, at least). That said, although the MD5 will not make my EDC list, the knife does have a good feel. The weight actually provides a more substantial feel then anything you would expect for it’s size. The blade is wicked sharp out of the box and the Tonto blade is very attractive in black. As an addition to my collection, it is very attractive and will definitely be used and should stand up under some punishment. Deployment is authoritative and has a solid lockup with a smooth sound. Retraction very fast. Very little blade play which is almost unnoticeable. This is a surprising knife with excellent build quality. For the average person, it would make a solid EDC, sporting a substantial pocket clip, and I’m sure it will perform well. I will enjoy my MD5 for just the fun aspect of having it and playing with it, which does not really do justice to what it actually could do for you. I’m sure you will love owning one.

The customer service at Tacknives is outstanding. I had a question when ordering the MD5 online and did not expect an immediate reply, but within a few minutes, I received an email addressing my question and was offered the option to cancel at that time, if I wished. I chose to continue with the order. I received my order a week later (postal issue, not Tacknives). I have several other, full size OTF, budget knives. This medium size OTF, weighs a little more that 2 of my other OTF’s (not Tacknives), but I knew this when ordering. The MD5 is solidly built. All of the screws need to be checked and tightened and you can add a little bit of blue thread locker to be safe, but none were too loose when I got it. The action is stiff, but most budget OTF’s are and will get better with use. The blade edge was not dull, but not real sharp. I have taken care of that. There is some blade play (side to side and front to back), but not as bad as on most budget OTF’s. I’ve been carrying and using it for just over a week now and I do like it. If you are looking for a good quality, budget OTF knife, I would highly recommend this knife.

Great knife, a little smaller than expected. Action is great, very snappy, but still a little bit of spring noise. The pocket clip was a little loose but can be easily tightened.
