TacKnives – The Viper
Designing a budget knife is always a challenge. With premium knives, it feels like the sky’s the limit—there’s so much you can do to make them interesting. But with budget knives, cost becomes the main constraint, and that affects almost every decision.
With the Viper, I wanted to create something lightweight, affordable, but still not boring. I usually lean toward more complex handle textures, but those add cost quickly. This time, I challenged myself to keep it simple while still making it feel unique.
The goal was something slicey, comfortable, and reliable—a true hard-use everyday carry.
I have owned a lot of expense and budget knives in my life, but this knife just blows me away. Very well made and the 14c28N blade is incredible. Very thin with a nice flat grind making it very good for EDC tasks. The aggressive jumping all the way down the spine is super. You can make any kind cut. Very comfortable in hand with the large blade choil and harpoon blade shape. You need to buy one before they’re gone!
I mean for the price- this checks all the boxes. Excellent axis lock action, thin behind the edge with even bevel, heat treat seems dead on since I did a light sharpening and it worked to extremely sharp 800 grit finish. Nice size, not too small- plenty of cutting surface, fits in hand and in pocket nice. I bought a second one for my friend, and he has over 100+ knives as well and said this is an amazing value, summer carry!
